Kraus Fund Application

Madrona Community Council Project Application

[Download the application form HERE]

In 2010, the Madrona Community Council (MCC) accepted applications for neighborhood parks and recreation improvement projects. The funding for these projects was provided by the Martin and Mimi Kraus gift, long-time residents of Madrona and true lovers of the outdoors. The MCC administered this bequest money to four neighborhood projects: the renovation of Madrona Beach, restoration work in Madrona Woods, improvements to Harrison Ridge, and the renovation of the Madrona Shelterhouse. The MCC will solicit another round of applications for the remaining $20,000 in the Kraus gift in early 2014.

Requirements

  • Project must demonstrate public benefit of a park and/or recreation project.

  • Project must be within the boundaries of the Madrona neighborhood.

Criteria

  • Projects can be for any amount, up to $20,000; smaller projects will also be considered.

  • Project must meet the approval of the Parks Department or other land-owner agency in concept and design. The concept approval should be obtained and included in the application by the due date.

  • Project should demonstrate a high degree of neighborhood involvement and support, or demonstrated need.

  • Successful projects will receive a one-time award, and should not be used for ongoing maintenance.

Application Process

Applicants must complete the attached project application form. Projects will be selected by the Madrona Community Council based on the Project Requirements, Criteria, and content of the application. The Madrona Community Council will begin to consider funding requests at the March meeting of the council, Tuesday March 4, 2014. If the bequest money is not exhausted after the first round of grant review, then there will be another opportunity for submission of applications for funding when the Council reconvenes in the fall, on a later-determined schedule.

Applications are due February 24, 2014. Presentations will be made at the Council meeting on March 4, 2014 and awards will be announced on April 1, 2014.
